TLDR : go skinning mining, drop skinning after you get enough devilsaur skins and pick up engineering because in the long term it far outweighs leatherworking.Massively multiplayer online role-playing I went skinning leather working in vanilla but looking back I didn’t utilize my professions enough and always wished I had engineering for the DPS perks and mining because of how valuable arcane crystals are. Skin everything while leveling sell it to genders for extra cash securing your mount gold and when you hit your 50’s kill those decilsaurs! Skin as many as you can to get the price of your set down or get all the leather you need then drop for engineering because at this point after that skinning doesn’t do a lot for you. If you want the devilsaur set I suggest going mining skinning, save mining materials in bank until your ready to pick up engineering as it doesn’t have a ton of advantage while leveling just a time sink away from the race to 60. ![]() (Unless you go tribal for devilsaur set, but if you want this see below for my suggestion*)Įngineering provides advantages in the short and long term, short you get access to your gadgets and bombs to help boost DPS and do lots of fun stuff and well the long term is these things scale much farther than your leather working items will. Leather working doesn’t give you much for things you will keep and use long term just lots of craft able items to fill slots till you get BIS equipment for the release period. Short term leather working seems the best, cool recipes good stuff while leveling of your not rushing and when you hit 60 some of the dragon scale leather working is neat. I’m in the same boat minus I plan to PVP but here’s what I found. So I’m not sure which to go with and could use some input from people who know a lot more about the game than I do However, I’ve looked at a lot of vanilla wow hunter guides, and a lot of them say that engineering is a must-have for both PVP and PVE, and I can totally see why. Also, leatherworking + skinning really fits the class fantasy, since as a hunter, you would make use of every part of the beast you kill. Being able to craft armor upgrades and armor kits, along with pre-BIS gear, would greatly help me during leveling and gearing up for endgame. But despite all that, leatherworking is still a tempting option. And given how hard it is to get a raid spot as a hunter, I wanna do everything I can to increase my chances of getting into raid groups. Also, I’ve heard that raid groups won’t take a hunter who doesn’t have engineering. I’ve also heard that engineering is useful in raiding, with bombs/grenades giving an extra boost in DPS, goblin jumper cables for ressing fallen allies, and repair bots for repairing broken gear after multiple wipes. Plus I’m thinking the bombs/grenades would give me an extra edge against mobs if I ever get in a bind. So I wanna go with engineering so I can craft guns, scopes, ammo, and trinkets. ![]() ![]() I’ll be rolling on a PVE server and doing only PVE content, as I have no interest in PVP. I’ll be maining a night elf hunter, and just as the title says, I can’t choose between mining + engineering, or skinning + leatherworking.
